Karen Morgan has devoted her life to public service. During her 36 years as an attorney for the
Maryland General Assembly, she developed her interest in consumer protection. She has had a
longstanding interest in computer security, identity theft, fraud prevention, and consumer
protection issues. While working for the Maryland General Assembly, she has drafted a number
of bills in the identity theft prevention area and co-authored a report on how identity theft laws
are enforced in Maryland. She has made presentations on identity theft legislation before the
Maryland General Assembly and the Maryland Identity Theft Working Group, organized by the
US Attorney’s Office for the State of Maryland.
Morgan has been happy to volunteer with AARP-Maryland since retiring from state service. She
has concentrated on fraud prevention and received the prestigious AARP Maryland Award in
2021 for her social outreach work with the Protect Week campaign, which is designed to help
highlight and prevent elder financial abuse. In 2023, she received the AARP Maryland Award for
Communications for her work on promoting issues important to those ages 50 and older on,
among other arenas, Maryland Public Television, and WBFF Fox 45 television.
Morgan is originally from Chicago, Illinois, and while she makes her home in Maryland, insists
that she is from the “south side” of Chicago, and a die-hard fan of the Chicago White Sox!
